It‘s a little bit of magic to see how the shape of wood changes while working on the lathe. The lathe is very useful for making tablelegs, chesspieces, wheels, toolhandles, platters and bowls.
In a morning or afternoon (3 hours) you learn the basics of spindle turning (between the centers) or faceplateturning (on the chuck). The emphasis is on the cutting technique, sidewise you learn some about the scraping technique.
Attention will be paid to the turningtools, suitable woods, finishing, profiles, copywork and of course safety.
